Condolence Message for Madam J. Jayalalitha

We are deeply saddened by the demise of Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Selvi J. Jayalalithaa. We extend our deepest condolences to the people of Tamil Nadu and her followers across the country in this hour of grief. She was an iconic political figure, one of the most inspirational women leaders of the  country who was continually dedicated to the socioeconomic transformation of Tamil Nadu and its people. She was a visionary and an able administrator - a leader of the masses whose work for the poor, marginalized, and women will be always regarded as a great example of public service. Her welfare schemes like  the free laptop scheme; Amma canteens - Amma Unnavagam - with good-quality  subsidized food for the homeless;  mid-day meal scheme;  and breakfast meals  across government schools are some of the most innovative schemes launched by the late CM for the poor. Stabilizing the power situation in Tamil Nadu, especially in rural  areas, by giving a strong push to solar energy ; introducing the 'Thallikku Thangam' scheme for women;  phasing out the prohibition of liquor outlets;   rainwater harvesting scheme (RHS) ; the Cradle Baby Scheme;  and banning the sale of lotteries in 2003 are some of her remarkable achievements as a Chief  Minister.

The 'Iron Lady' will be sorely missed. We hope and pray that Amma's legacy and good governance are taken forward by her party and the people of Tamil Nadu, and the State moves forward on its path of development in all spheres.
